When the sonic.art saxophone quartet meets accordion virtuoso Valentin Butt, the result is a concert evening full of sonic discoveries. The quartet, whose members come from Belarus, Australia, Japan and Germany and have studied in music centers such as Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin, has been one of the leading ensembles of its kind since it was founded in 2005. Awarded prestigious prizes - including the Grand Prix of the International Chamber Music Competition for Contemporary Music in Krakow and the prize of the German Music Competition - sonic.art has performed at festivals worldwide and impresses with its precision, subtlety and careful programming. Their repertoire includes important original works for saxophone quartet as well as artful arrangements from different eras. Valentin Butt, born in St. Petersburg and educated at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, complements this sound world with his unmistakable musical signature. As a multiple award-winning accordionist, he works with top orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and major opera and theater houses and is also present in radio play and film music productions. His search for new timbres takes him freely through classical, avant-garde, jazz, techno and folk music. Together, sonic.art and Valentin Butt promise an evening that generously opens up musical boundaries and makes it possible to experience new sound spaces. You can hear works by Dimitri Shostakovich, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Leonard Bernstein, Astor Piazzolla and Richard Galliano.
