Sonnenfinsternis über Bochum – Ein besonderer Abend auf dem Fördergerüst
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:
NOTE: The planned observation of the solar eclipse from the hoist tower is currently subject to change. Due to a technical malfunction, it is not yet possible to say for certain whether the hoist tower will be back in operation in time. The supporting program will still take place. We’ll keep you updated.
On August 12, 2026, the hoist tower at the German Mining Museum in Bochum will become an extraordinary viewing location: Experience the partial solar eclipse 62 meters above the city’s rooftops. Look forward to a special summer evening featuring hands-on activities for families, short presentations on the sun, moon, and the solar eclipse by the Astronomical Institute of Ruhr University Bochum, and a livestream of the total solar eclipse from Spain.
On the mining tower, miners will serve guests cool drinks, and a food truck will be waiting at Europaplatz. After sunset, the evening will wind down on the Bergbau-Wiese—and with a little luck, you might even catch a glimpse of the Perseids.
