Sonus Feminæ #4 - The Woman Question

The musical-literary evening THE WOMAN QUESTION in the Sonus feminæ series brings the work of Christine de Pizan and the gender debates of the early modern period to life.

The Sonus feminæ concert series opens its season with the literary-musical evening THE WOMAN QUESTION. The focus is on Christine de Pizan's groundbreaking work "The Book of the City of Women", a milestone in feminist literature from 1405, and the "Querelles des Femmes", the heated gender dispute of the early modern period. The ensemble Cité des Dames and the guest ensemble Trio Tiefsaits will perform works from the collection of Margarete von Österreich, compositions by Maddalena Casulana and Barbara Strozzi, among others. Under the direction of Iñigo Giner Miranda, the works will be brought into a lively dialog with historical text excerpts by narrator Cathrin Romeis.

At 6.30 pm, Prof. Margarete Zimmermann will offer additional insights into the debates and intellectual worlds of the Middle Ages and early modern times with an informative lecture.
