“Sophie” is an extraordinary play because it depicts a very ordinary life. 

At the age of eight, Sophie sits in her bedroom with her friend Daniel, making plans for the future: definitely no kids, but at least five dogs!

And eighty years later, back in that same room, Sophie dreams of her mother, her father, and her son. And of Daniel, who sits down beside her and holds her hand.

In between lies an entire life—and a family history. The series of scenes, which depicts a life in twelve stages within this room, sometimes seems mundane, sometimes funny, and sometimes painful. Time and again, it tells of the love between people—a love that is sometimes not enough, and at other times so strong that it can lift a life up.
