Symbiotic Distortion | Soundperformance by Michel Winterberg
In the organizer's words:
In Symbiotic Distortion, Michel Winterberg uses live sound sources from the electromagnetic fields of everyday devices such as fans, remote controls and power supplies. With these devices and special detectors, he improvises from granular to repetitive and even carrying soundscapes, immersing the listener in a psychedelic noise cosmos.
The electromagnetic fields are made audible to us live through special detectors. Symbiotic Distortion does not use an actual sequencer, but improvises exclusively with the recorded sounds, which are further modulated by delay loops and effect loops and sometimes played back repetitively.
The sound performance is part of an open, constantly evolving sound process - between disturbance, structure and improvised compression.
Specially programmed, sound-reactive visuals consisting of abstract, flowing video glitches reinforce the sound performance

In Symbiotic Distortion, Michel Winterberg uses live sound sources derived from the electromagnetic fields of everyday devices such as fans, remote controls and power supplies. With these devices and specially designed detectors, he improvises soundscapes ranging from granular to repetitive and sustained textures, that invites the audience to immerse themselves in a psychedelic noise cosmos.
These electromagnetic fields are made audible in real time through specialized detectors. No conventional sequencer is used in Symbiotic Distortion; instead, the piece is based entirely on improvisation with live recorded sounds, which are further modulated via delay loops and effects chains, and partially repeated.
The sound performance is part of an open-ended and continuously evolving sonic process - moving between interference, structure and improvised density.
Custom-programmed, sound-reactive visuals made of abstract, flowing video glitches enhance the performance.
