SPARMANIA MÜNZ-WALK LEIPZIG BY RAUSGEGANGEN
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:
On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a perfectly ordinary summer stroll through Leipzig will turn into a treasure hunt. At the Sparmania Coin Walk, starting at 4:00 p.m., you’ll join us on a route through the city’s most beautiful parks and along its waterways, collecting virtual coins for Sparkasse Leipzig’s big anniversary sweepstakes. The whole event is free, lasts about an hour, and ends with a complimentary drink. The meeting point is the Clara Zetkin Monument in Johannapark, where the first coin is already waiting for you.
What is Sparmania? Sparkasse Leipzig’s anniversary sweepstakes
Sparkasse Leipzig will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2026 and, to mark the occasion, has transformed its entire service area into a digital game board. In Sparmania, around 250 virtual coins are hidden throughout Leipzig, Northern Saxony, and the Leipzig district—and you can collect them. The game is played entirely in your browser atsparmania-200.de. So you don’t need an app or to download anything—just your smartphone with a camera and location services enabled. Every coin you find goes into your virtual piggy bank and also counts as an entry in the sweepstakes. Along the way, you’ll unlock achievements. The game runs through September 20, 2026, so you’ll have plenty of time after the walk to continue your coin hunt.
Here’s how the coin hunt works on the go
The concept is easy to explain: Open the game in your browser, set up your Sparmania profile, and start walking. As soon as you get close to a coin, you can collect it using your phone. Thetreasure map shows you where the coins are located, and if you want to review how everything works beforehand, you’ll find the details in theinstructions. That’s exactly why it’s worth setting up your profile before you start walking—not just when you get to the monument. That way, your coins are safely saved, and you can focus fully on collecting them while you’re out and about.
The Route: A Journey Through Leipzig’s Green and Blue Sides
The walk takes you through the spots that make Leipzig so beloved. It starts at the Clara Zetkin Monument in Johannapark, where a special walk coin—available only on this day—awaits you right at the start. From there, the route continues over the Sachsenbrücke—the ultimate meeting spot where half of Leipzig gathers in the evening to watch the sunset over the Elster floodplain. Afterward, the route winds its way across the Steinbrücke through the Palmengarten, past the Arena and Waldplatz, all the way to the Schreberbrücke at the Stadthafen. So you’ll be walking from the vast meadows of Clara Zetkin Park over to the Wasserstadt, where the White Elster, the Elster floodplain, and the Karl-Heine Canal give Leipzig its “Little Venice” charm. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of regular coins plus special coins available only for the walk, so you’ll walk away with a nice chunk of change by the end of the afternoon.
Destination: City Harbor—Finish Up at the Blüthner Wine Café
At the end of the roughly one-hour walk, you’ll arrive at Leipzig’s Stadthafen, the gateway to the Leipzig Neuseenland and one of the city’s most beautiful waterfront spots. Right here, in the historic Blüthner Villa, theBlüthner Weincaféawaits you. The building bears the name of the world-famous Leipzig-based Blüthner pianoforte factory, so its walls are steeped in Leipzig’s musical history. Today, it has been transformed into a cozy café with a garden, serving great coffee during the day and fine wine in the evening. Anyone who participated in the Walk and shows their Sparmania profile will receive a complimentary drink here. There’s also live music on site, and it’s the perfect spot to count your collected coins one more time. All of this is made possible by Sparkasse Leipzig.
Here’s what you can win: gold bars and an iPhone 17 Pro
And that’s what makes collecting them really worth it. The more coins you have in your piggy bank, the better your chances of winning one of three gold bars, each weighing five grams and currently worth around 600 euros. Anyone who collects at least 200 coins in total will also be entered into a lottery for an iPhone 17 Pro. The Coin Walk is a great way to kick things off, because you can rack up plenty of entries in a single afternoon. After that, it’s all about staying in the game: Through September 20, you can keep collecting coins throughout Leipzig and boost your chances of winning bit by bit.
