It all starts with Kristalloma: she single-handedly builds a house on an industrial wasteland, and the Lusthansa becomes a home for women who have none. Years later, a new community forms there under the care of Kristalloma and her partner Bruno: friends Maj and Stevie, their father and his wife Linde join them. Three generations live together under the self-built roof, share paprika soup, watch astro TV together and look out for each other. Until the nearby town issues a demolition notice and the Lusthansa has to fight for its existence.

In her debut novel Sperrgut (January 2026, park x ullstein), Sophia Merwald invents her very own language - lyrical and playful, yet razor-sharp in its observation, surreal and at the same time deeply truthful.

Rebecca Maria Salentin is an author, speaker and moderator. From 2019 to 2023, she initiated the literary show Die schlecht gemalte Deutschlandfahne. Most recently, she published the bestsellers Klub Drushba and Iron Woman. Her work has been awarded numerous grants and prizes.

Sophia Merwald, born in 1998, studied journalism and film and media culture research and works as a freelance journalist. Sperrgut is her first novel, for which she was awarded several prizes before publication, including the Alfred Döblin Prize. She lives and works in Munich.
