The international ensemble Spielende Insel invites you to the first concert of the year at Villa Elisabeth, opening the new concert series Lineages.
Lineages is dedicated to musical connections and lines of tradition across time and geographical space. This season focuses on the piano quartets of Johannes Brahms, which will be presented in three concerts over the course of the year and placed in dialog with other works.
The season opens with Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 2 in A major op. 26 - a work of transcendental beauty and monumental calm, whose architectural expanse and inner balance are among the great achievements of chamber music.
It is framed by two very different perspectives: George Enescu's Piano Trio in A minor, in which Brahms' formal thinking is combined with French sound culture and Romanian folklore, and Jean Françaix's String Trio in C major, which sets a deliberate contrast to the Romantic tradition with transparency, lightness and playful elegance.
As a special guest, the ensemble welcomes the American violinist William Hagen, who will perform this evening together with Andrei Ioniță, Sindy Mohamed and Catalin Serban.
