The museum becomes a playing field, visitors become players or observers on the sidelines: the exhibition sheds light on sport from an artistic perspective. What happens when you change the rules or completely rethink them? Modify the functions and forms of sports equipment? Or sport freed from the idea of performance?
International artists question the social, cultural and societal dimensions of sport. Many works of art invite active participation: on a table tennis table with obstacles, on a slightly different chessboard or with balls that are not round. As a mass phenomenon, sport connects people and promotes community. It creates identity. At the same time, barriers and restrictions to participation are omnipresent - these need to be overcome.
The project was developed in cooperation with the beneFit and Ring Freiburg clubs, with Christian Streich as patron.
