In the organizer's words:
There is a public viewing. And then there is this public viewing.
On Sunday, June 14, the German men's national soccer team will play Curaçao in their first group match on a big screen in Hamburg's Gängeviertel.
While men play for a trophy on the pitch, a queer commentary team sits on the stage and accompanies the game - loud, exaggerated, subjective, queer. The commentary does not remain neutral, because neutrality and a non-political stance in professional soccer has never been an option. He reacts to the field and the audience. It is happy about goals. He suffers with them. He exaggerates where necessary.
Procedure
- From 4 pm you can secure the best seats in the stadium and get in the mood for our shared experience. Eat stollen. Reflect on the offside in which we live.
- The preliminary program will start at 5 p.m. : a sports show format, politically and artistically transformed. Clips, interludes, banana flank, cucumber pass. A warm-up hour for all those who have always wanted to hear the difference between the logic of the double pass on the pitch and the logic of the patriarchy in one sentence.
- Kick-off at 7pm. First half. Half-time performance. Second half.
- Then it's off to the local Cologne cellar for a debriefing .
- Besides: Goal wall shooting, face painting for adults, typical stadium cuisine, drinks and the long-awaited merch - the SCHAAL DER SCHÄBIGEN from the Schaar der Schäbigen, to match the 2026 World Cup, and the tote bags from Pompös St. Pauli.
Further information
SPIELRAUM is aimed at everyone who likes soccer and sometimes feels like they're not quite meant to be at a traditional public viewing. To queer people who like soccer or balls. To soccer fans who have ever noticed that something is not quite right on this pitch. And to everyone who just wants a good evening.
The public coming-out of an active professional footballer is still an exception in 2026. If you look at the comment columns, you need strong nerves and a Negroni. We won't be bringing the Negroni, but we will be bringing Prestige Crémant and the odd handball.
The most well-rounded event of the year is organized by the Hamburg collectives Schaar der Schäbigen and Pompös St. Pauli. An awareness team will be on site from 4 to 10 pm. National flags are not welcome.
16:00 Admission | 17:00 Pre-program | 19:00 Kick-off | Closing after the final whistle in the Kölner Keller.
Free admission.
