Four days, one open space, what feels like half the globe on one plate: from April 30 to May 3, 2026, the area in front of the Kohlrabizirkus in Leipzig will once again be transformed into Europe's largest open-air living room for foodies. Just in time for the long weekend in May, the food trucks will roll up, unfold their awnings and fire up their pans - with specialties from all over the world, cool drinks and the kind of atmosphere where you can sit for hours without even realizing it.

When will the Street Food Festival Leipzig 2026 take place?

The festival runs over four days - including Labor Day on May 1, which combines the whole thing with a relaxed spring bridge day atmosphere. Here are the opening times:

• Thursday, April 30, 2026: 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
• Friday, May 1, 2026: 11:00 - 22:00 (public holiday)
• Saturday, May 2, 2026: 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
• Sunday, May 3, 2026: 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Thursday is traditionally a little quieter - if you want to take a relaxed stroll and head straight to the bars without queuing, it's best to come to the opening. Friday and Saturday will be packed, and on Sunday it's time to chill out again.

The festival site is located on the open space directly in front of the Kohlrabizirkus - the legendary wholesale market hall from the late 1920s with the two monumental reinforced concrete domes, which were the largest self-supporting domes in the world at the time of construction. Bauhaus architecture, industrial charm and food trucks - you couldn't ask for a better backdrop.

Getting to the Street Food Festival Leipzig

By public transport (recommended):

• Streetcar line 16 to An den Tierkliniken stop - from there it's about 350 m on foot
• Bus line 70 to the Kohlrabizirkus stop
• From Leipzig main station you can be there in 10 to 15 minutes

By car: Via the B2 junction Zwickauer Straße. Parking is available in the parking lot in front of the Kohlrabizirkus (access via Semmelweisstraße). On the main visiting days, the parking lot can fill up quickly - public transport is honestly the better option, especially if you want to pick up a craft beer or two.

By bike: A relaxed ride from the city center - parking is available on site.

Tickets & admission: How much does the Street Food Festival Leipzig 2026 cost?

The prices are pleasantly humanistic:

• Day ticket: €4 (incl. €1 drinks voucher)
• Festival ticket: €5 for all four days (incl. €1 drinks voucher)
• Children under 14: Free admission

Tickets are available online via the official platform of the organizer or directly at the box office on site. With the price difference between a day ticket and a festival ticket, you only have to do the math once.

What you can expect in culinary terms

The promise is "Once around the world" - and this is less a marketing slogan than a realistic calorie trip. The curated food trucks and stalls bring with them:

• Burgers in all variations - from the classic smash patty to the exotic zoo burger
• Asian cuisine: Korean specialties, bao buns, Japanese street food, sushi variations

Plus a selected range of craft beer bars, cocktails, smoothies and coffee specialties - in other words, everything you could possibly want in addition to a proper street food plate.

Supporting program: live music, DJs and children's area

Street food without a soundtrack would just be an open-air canteen. That's why there will be live music and DJ sets in a relaxed retro diner atmosphere throughout the festival. Nobody will be playing your eardrums off - this is background music in the best sense of the word, perfect for chatting, eating and sitting.

For the little festival guests there's the Kinderland with:

• Bungee trampoline
• face painting
• Carousels and entertainment
• Ice cream in every conceivable flavor

This means that parents can enjoy a second burger in peace without the kids whining.

To be honest: pretty much everyone. For foodies who want to try everything they would otherwise never cook. For families looking for a relaxed weekend program. For students, who can enjoy four days with €5 admission. For dates who can't decide on a restaurant. For groups of friends looking for a reason to sit outside for a long time again. And for everyone who wants to finally feel like the warm season has officially started again in May.

With around 15,000 visitors recently, the festival is now firmly anchored in Leipzig's spring calendar - but the open space at Kohlrabizirkus is big enough that it never gets really claustrophobic.

Practical tips for your visit

• Have cash with you: Some trucks accept cards, others don't - you're on the safe side with a bit of cash in your pocket.
• Bring an appetite: A single stand is never enough - plan at least three to four stops.
• Come with a friend: Sharing makes strategic sense here. You'll try much more this way.
• Check the weather: Open air means open air - a rain jacket never hurts, even if the May forecast usually looks pretty friendly.
• Come early or late: The quietest times are Thursdays and the first few hours on Friday/Saturday.
• Sunday is family day: If you come with children, you'll find the most relaxed atmosphere on Sundays.
