Symposium: Costs of (Dis)Connecting

In the organizer's words:

All-day program with lectures, talks, performances with Günseli Yalcinkaya (author, London, UK), Shumon Basar (author, Berlin), Orhun Mersin & Yağmur Uçkunkaya (both performance artists, Berlin & Istanbul), Shusha Niederberger & Heiko Schmid (art mediator & author, both Zurich), Franziska von Hasselbach (artist, Neuss), Mark Mushiva (artist & author, Berlin)

Digital connections are often sold as something consistently good: seamless, smooth, universal. Yet the infrastructures that link us together also seem to be designed as structures of exploitation, dispossession and exhaustion. Connecting can also mean paying - with attention, with intimacy, with the dissolution of shared worlds. This symposium asks: What does disconnecting cost us in the digital present and what are we prepared to accept?

The symposium is part of the research project "(Un)Learning Digitalities" with Prof. Anna Ehrenstein, the course "Photography in Contemporary Art" and the Office for Digital Teaching (Eliza Goldox and Juness Beshir) at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. The event is being realized in cooperation with HALLE 14.
