The first point of contact for visitors to the German National Library in Leipzig is the service desk. From here, you can reach the historical reading room for the humanities and other reading rooms.
In an extensive construction project from 2023 to 2025, the reading room for the humanities and the service counter were rebuilt and modernized. The architects' main task was to harmonize modern interior design, new technology and the sensitive treatment of the listed building.
Visitors can now enjoy a newly designed, modern and accessible service area as well as the modernized reading room for the humanities. The holdings are now made available using a modern media box system, which enables flexible access to the media ordered for use in the reading rooms.
Architecture Day:
The Day of Architecture has been taking place since 1995. Saxony has been taking part since 1996 and now all 16 chambers of architects throughout Germany offer tours of current architectural projects at the end of June. A broad spectrum of building typologies is always on display: private houses, new rental and owner-occupied apartments, buildings for offices and administration, for schools and education, for senior citizens and children, for crafts and trades through to gardens and parks.
