In the organizer's words:
Under the motto "Time to set an example", the nationwide Organ Donation Day on June 6 and 7 will take place in Leipzig for the first time over two days. Embedded in the Leipzig City Festival, the topic of organ donation will be brought to the heart of the city and to the people. Visitors to Grimmaische Straße can expect a wide range of information and hands-on activities with a total of 14 participating organizations, associations and institutions.
Experts, organ transplant recipients and relatives of organ donors will be available for personal discussions at the information stands. Interested parties can obtain comprehensive information about organ donation, transplantation and the options for documenting their own decision, for example with an organ donor card or online in the organ donor register.
For more than 40 years, Organ Donation Day has been drawing attention to the topic nationwide and aims to encourage people to consciously address the issue of organ donation. To kick off the day, an ecumenical thanksgiving service will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Church.
Highlight "Gifted years of life"
A special program awaits visitors on Saturday, 6 June, from 3 to 3.30 pm on Augustusplatz. During the "Gifted Years of Life" campaign, transplanted people will impressively demonstrate how many additional years of life have been made possible for them through organ donation.
