The double virginal by Andreas Ruckers (Antwerp 1644) in the Leipzig Museum of Musical Instruments. History - Restoration - Music
The instrument maker Andreas I. Ruckers (1579 - ca. 1645) came from a well-known Flemish family of harpsichord makers and had his own workshop in Antwerp. The Ruckers' instruments were among the top products of keyboard instrument making of the Flemish school. Around 130 instruments with an outstanding sound from the 16th and 17th centuries have been preserved. These include spinets, virginals, muselaars and one- and two-manual harpsichords. The double virginal (inv. no. 1093) consists of two instruments placed on top of each other, which can be played simultaneously.
