Tag des offenen Denkmals® 2026
In the organizer's words:
Every year on the second Sunday in September, more than 6,500 historic sites open their doors across Germany to you, your friends, and the whole family. Coordinated nationwide by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, Open Monument Day® offers you the chance to discover places that are otherwise inaccessible. Be inspired by historic craft techniques or get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at restoration work performed by experts— on September 13 during Open Monument Day 2026.
This year’s nationwide event is themed “NetzWERKE: Monuments & Infrastructure.” Visitors can look forward to open train stations and industrial sites, utility facilities, and insights into the long history of our interconnected world. In many places, hands-on activities, exciting guided tours, and glimpses behind otherwise closed doors await.
Admission is free.
All information about the participating historic sites is available at www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de or in the free Open Monument Day app. Here, you can filter the program by region, save historic sites, and plan your own routes.
