Day of honor 2026:

André Rabe and Christina Oskui invite you to a joint tandem reading at the Kunstklinik in Hamburg-Eppendorf

May 23 is the Day of Honor: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, together with the German Foundation for Commitment and Volunteering, is calling on all citizens to become active for the community on the 77th birthday of the Basic Law. All over Germany, associations, organizations, companies and individuals are taking part in the day of participation - with small campaigns or large events, but always with great commitment.

Tandem reading for blind and sighted children and interested parties

Together with André Rabe, the author Christina Oskui reads her fable entitled

title:

"The hedgehog who lost his spines!", with André Rabe reading with his hands, as he has been blind from birth, and Christina Oskui reading the classic children's book version and supplementing it with a picture book movie. There are tactile illustrations for blind children during the reading and after the reading the children can get to know the Braille alphabet and write their names. We compare a classic and a Braille children's book, feel colors with the color compass and experience different visual impairments with simulation glasses.

The reading will take place in the Kunstklinik Eppendorf at Martinistraße 44a in the hall in 20251 Hamburg . Access is barrier-free and admission is free.

We have deliberately scheduled the premiere of a joint tandem reading on the Day of Honour, which recognizes commitment and dedication to others as central values of our democracy. As an author, I have dedicated myself for many years to the topic of "barrier-free children's media - children's books with added value" in order to prevent barriers from arising in the first place and to build bridges so that blind and sighted children can read and tactilely understand books together in the future. I would like to thank Mr. André Rabe, 2nd Chairman of the Blind and Visually Impaired Association Hamburg e.V. for his cooperation and the German Foundation for Commitment and Volunteering for their kind support, as well as Aktion Mensch.

On the day of honor, 23.05.2026, we look forward to your visit and your questions and suggestions. Admission from 14:30h, start of the tandem reading at 15:00h.

For children aged 4 and over accompanied by their parents or adult caregivers and interested parties.
