Performance as part of the Tanztriennale Hamburg, June 14 - 21, 2026
German premiere
"CLAP & SLAP" explores the complex and paralyzing tension that arose in Eastern Europe after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This tension is examined from a historical, political, geographical and social perspective, as well as through the personal experiences of the two performers Agnietė Lisičkinaitė and Igor Shugaleev. On stage, the two artists attempt a dialog that seems impossible outside of art: a dialog between fear and the need to act, between collective and personal responsibility, between personal tragedy and geopolitical catastrophe. Can we respect differences, uphold personal convictions and protect individual freedoms without violating the rights of others? This is the question that the two of them, and therefore their audience, face.
Agnietė Lisičkinaitė and Igor Shugaleev are internationally renowned for their politically engaged work. They explore protest culture, the effects of political regimes and personal interpretations of freedom. Central to their creative practices is the physically exhausted body as a symbol of oppression.
