Performance as part of the Tanztriennale Hamburg, June 14 - 21, 2026
In a sculpture-sound installation animated by live performance, artist nora chipaumire creates a house full of radical, participatory possibilities for decolonization. "Dambudzo", which means "unrest" in Shona, revives the ideas of radical African thinkers and combines them with nora chipaumire's own thoughts and experiences, with current political realities and resistance to (neo-)colonial control.
The artist explores the revolutionary potential of performance and stages colonial legacies by showing a Zimbabwean "shabini" - an informal bar in private homes where people come together to talk about resistance and rebellion against the political power apparatus. Through physical expression, nora chipaumire searches for a language beyond words and attempts to overcome the boundaries set by language. She uses movement as a personal and universal means of communication that enables a more subtle and intuitive understanding.
