The Dorf

In the organizer's words:

The Dorf is cult! The 25-strong ensemble is one of the most important creative musical (unrest) cells in the Ruhr region. It is a collective, artistic nucleus, experimental field, communication center and social process in equal measure, created in one of the domicil's curatorial series with beginnings in 2006 under the direction of saxophonist and composer Jan Klare. Since then, a public workshop concert in the domicil's main hall has been a permanent feature of village life (at least) once a month.

The village's activities are no longer limited to the domicil: There are "away games", international festival invitations and specials with exciting new projects (unforgettable e.g.: The Dorf plays Ummagumma as part of the Pink Floyd exhibition) and guests from FM Einheit to Stian Westerhus, Joachim Kühn and International Music.

The creative and socio-cultural work of the ensemble was documented in the feature film "Jazzsoup", which was shown in numerous cinemas in NRW in 2013 following its sold-out premiere at domicil. A creative and communicative cosmos has long since developed around the village, from which the Umland Records label has emerged.

Motto: Utopian beats with ambient sounds, improv and always a pinch of Krautrock. Musically transgressive, space-filling, powerful, imaginative, even irritating, but always surprising.
