THE GATES ARE (NEARLY) OPEN

In the organizer's words:

With "THE GATES ARE (NEARLY) OPEN", the Berlin opera company Novoflot is once again bringing a spectacular production to the public space. Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich and the forecourts of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz are the venues for this special kind of musical theater.
Novoflot is taking part in the "Munich Biennale - Festival for New Music Theater" for the first time in 2024. As one of only three European independent groups that, according to the festival, "have been shaping the European music theater scene for many years", the Berlin opera company has been invited to contribute to the invention and formulation of new (thought) lines for a meaningful mobility of the future and to transform them into a music theater in public space - including music-controlled energy supply! The composition for THE GATES ARE (NEARLY) OPEN is by the New York-based Chinese artist Du Yun, who has already won the Pulitzer Prize for Music, while the lyrics are by ruth weiss, the American poet, artist and performance heroine who died in 2020 at the age of 92.
