The Heliocentrics (Madlib Invazion/UK) *live*
The Heliocentrics: Everything that is music in just one band.
The Heliocentrics are a London-based collective of musicians around drummer Malcolm Catto, who defy genre and style boundaries in an exciting way.
Since the band, which usually consists of about seven members, first appeared on DJ Shadow's album "The Outsider" in 2006, the Brits have presented a whole series of far-reaching productions that weave influences from funk, jazz, hip-hop, psychedelic, krautrock, electronica, post-punk and Afrobeat into a dense, complex web.
Free of stylistic constraints, they create only music that they themselves want to hear. For the band, implementing this philosophy means first and foremost: playing together. By collaborating with young and old pioneers of various styles and the constant search for new inspirations, they have succeeded in constantly evolving, and to this day elude classification in genre terms.
What the band produces in Malcolm Catto's studio can hardly be put into words. The list of their fans and collaborators is correspondingly diverse. DJ Shadow, Madlib and Orlando Julius are as addicted to the sound of Heliocentrics as Mulatu Astatke or The Gaslamp Killer.
On the one hand we do not know exactly what to expect, on the other hand we are very sure: there is everything that can be music.
