The Mystery Lights formed in Salinas, California, when friends Mike Brandon and Luis Alfonso Solano (LA), united by their love of psych-garage rock, punk and skateboarding, set out to create their own offbeat rock 'n' roll. In 2012, they moved to New York, where they completed their lineup with three like-minded musicians: Alex Amini on bass, Zachary Butler on drums and Lily Rogers on keyboards.

With their live shows known for their visceral energy and relentless attack - there are little to no breaks between songs - they played their way through countless New York clubs and DIY venues and quickly amassed an enthusiastic local following. Their hype caught the attention of Daptone Records, who signed them to their rock label Wick Records in 2015. Since then, The Mystery Lights have released a string of albums - The Mystery Lights (2016), Too Much Tension! (2019) and Purgatory (2024) - each expanding their sound while staying true to their raw, unpolished style.

The Mystery Lights recently released a new 45 single on King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's PDOOM label: "Kids of Today" b/w "Wish You Unwell". The A-side opens with a heavy proto-metal assault dosed with heavy psychedelia, while the B-side delivers a more somber, soulful ballad about heartbreak and black magic.
