In the organizer's words:
The "New York Times" described Frederic Rzewski's "The people united will never be defeated!" as a "milestone in the history of piano music" after its premiere in 1976. The 36 variations on the Chilean protest song "¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!" are quite something, with a total playing time of almost an hour and the highest pianistic demands. In the "Music for Freaks" series, the young pianist Emanuil Ivanov takes up this challenge.
