The Sound of Courage - Music and Equality in the Nordic Countries
In the organizer's words:
Why do female and non-binary musicians still earn less? Why are they booked less often for festivals? And why are they still so frequently subjected to sexism—even in countries that are internationally regarded as role models for gender equality?
The exhibition “The Sound of Courage,” presented by the Nordic Embassies, explores persistent inequalities and experiences of sexism faced by women and gender-diverse individuals in the Nordic music scene. Inspired by the #MeToo movement and current debates, the exhibition spotlights artists who have brought injustices to light and driven change.
Using video, photo, and interview material from all Nordic countries, it tells the stories of pioneers, a new generation of committed musicians, and networks and initiatives working to promote fairer working conditions. At the same time, it aims to critically examine how far equality has actually been achieved—and what still needs to be done.
Among those featured in this exhibition are: Aurora, Lydmor, Zara Larsson, Björk, and Erika Vikman.
