In the organizer's words:
Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse based on the book "The Trapp Family" by Maria Augusta Trapp
German version by Kevin Schroeder and Heiko Wohlgemuth
With "The Sound of Music", the world-famous story of the Trapp family finds its way onto the stage of the Oldenburg State Theater for the first time. Based on the true story of the von Trapp family, the musical tells the story of the young novice Maria, who joins the children of the widowed naval officer Georg von Trapp as a governess. With joie de vivre, warmth and the help of music, she not only opens the children's hearts, but also turns their father's strictly regulated life upside down. While Maria and Georg von Trapp find each other, the political upheaval of the time, the imminent annexation of Austria by National Socialist Germany, casts a dark shadow over their future together. Unforgettable songs such as "Do-Re-Mi", "Edelweiss" and "Sechzehn, beinah schon Siebzehn" make "The Sound of Music" a musical experience for all generations.
The 1965 film of the same name, which won five Oscars and starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, is considered the most successful musical adaptation of all time and has brought the story of the Trapp family into living rooms around the world for generations. Time to tell it in Oldenburg too.
