The Underground Youth

Berlin-based band The Underground Youth have announced their eleventh studio album 'Nostalgia's Glass' and released the dreamlike video by Parker Love Bowling for the lead single 'I Thought I Understood'.

Craig Dyer writes: "'Nostalgia's Glass' looks back at the music of The Underground Youth and shapes new songs in a style that recalls the band's past, while the lyrics condemn the nostalgia that the album itself is guilty of. 'I Thought I Understood' was the first track on the album that I wrote with the aforementioned goal of writing about nostalgia, in this case an unhealthy obsession with the past."

Expanding on the album's themes, Dyer adds: "When you're faced with the task of making the eleventh album of your musical projects, you think long and hard about the direction you want to take. Do you look at what's currently popular and try to secure a place in the modern music you currently enjoy, or do you look back to the foundations on which the band built its name and fan base? This nostalgic feeling of looking over your shoulder into the past has influenced both the musical style of this new record and the themes of the individual tracks.

The goal was to create a collection of songs that pay homage to our old catalog while implementing everything we've learned along the way. I tried to dissect not only the positive but also the negative elements of nostalgia, especially the romanticization of the past, whether it be the politics of a country, the controversial legacy of film and music icons, or the sentimental idealization of long-dead toxic relationships."
