Maria, a young migrant from southern Italy, tells of her life in exile in Frankfurt with Giacomo, whom she married against her parents' wishes. In order to maintain the code of silence of her homeland, other immigrants interpret her story in front of the camera. What begins as a documentary portrait develops into a hybrid work - ambiguous, humorous, a mixture of reality and fiction, of history on a small and large scale. Through re-enactments that connect Maria's life with the experiences of the performers, the film shows uprootedness, integration and resignation and combines observational scenes with subtly staged moments that bring Maria's imagination to life.
