It's that time of year again: on Saturday, September 14, 2024, 36 Hamburg theaters will celebrate the start of the new theater season together. This year we are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Theater Night!

With a multifaceted program, the city's stages invite all Hamburg residents and visitors, theater lovers and the curious to rediscover the city. Exclusive premiere previews, exciting insights behind the scenes of the theater business, artist talks, workshops and auctions not only make the theater night itself a very special experience, but also whet the appetite for a new and exciting season in one of Germany's most important theater cities.

"Il paradiso è sempre altrove - Paradise is always somewhere else"

We show you an edited video recording of the theater production from summer 2023 with German subtitles.

It is the 3rd theater project on the village square of the small Tuscan village of San Gusmé of the Italian-German "Theater of Memory" founded in 2014 by the theater directors Matteo Marsan, Dania Hohmann, Ulrich Waller and the film director Eduard Erne.

"Il paradiso è sempre altrove" uses the perspective of a Tuscan village - where three young Germans stray in 1975 to study the supposedly imminent "revolution" and fall in love with this country and its inhabitants at one of the legendary festivals of the communist party newspaper "Unita" - to recall the beginnings of the women's and eco movements, the start of inclusion and how terror from the right and left was dealt with at the time.
