BRD 2023, documentary film, 81 min
Director: Frederik Subei
Language: OmU (Portuguese and Guajajara with German subtitles)
In one of the last remaining rainforests in the state of Maranhão, east of the Amazon in Brazil, the indigenous Guajajara do not want to stand idly by and watch their land and that of the uncontacted Awá people being destroyed. They are starting a group of forest conservationists who are determined to defend the Amazon rainforest - with their own lives if necessary. Poor equipment, no pay and the constant threat of the logging mafia do not deter them, as the forest is at the heart of their culture and identity.
In a sensitive and respectful approach, the documentary collects the voices of people whose world is constantly being destroyed by external influences. Their committed struggle is for a future that is essential for the survival of us all.
Afterwards, director Frederik Subei will be our guest for a discussion.
