We encounter some music again and again after its creation, while other music disappears - not because it deserves to, but because it is so special and difficult to reproduce that it rarely happens. This concert is therefore a stroke of luck, in which four young musicians recreate the unique world of the "Tiny Bell Trio" after several months of work.
The American trumpeter Dave Douglas, today a world star not only in the avant-garde, began his career in the mid-1980s in Horace Silver's band, among others. He soon became part of the scene around the legendary "Knitting Factory" in southern Manhattan and formed his first own bands from 1990 onwards, including the "Tiny Bell Trio" with Brad Shepik on guitar and Jim Black on drums, both of whom were to have no less of a style-defining effect on their instruments. Each of his compositions from the repertoire of this band is a cosmos of its own, inconspicuously polished in detail, aesthetically more or less based on the dance-like wind music of the Balkans, sometimes highly complex and virtuosic, then again seemingly simple, almost sentimental, always transitioning seamlessly into improvisations in different ways, and above all: still sounding fresh after a quarter of a century.
Line-up:
Hannes Weidauer - trumpet
Linus Berg - trombone
Béla Murzik - guitar
Hermann Spannenberger - drums
