In the organizer's words:

Sarah Ama Duah erects her new living latex monuments in unexpected spaces in the Humboldt Forum. They honor lives that are neither past nor honored by other monuments. Hidden objects merge with the bodies and provide clues to personal biographies and artifacts of cultural memory.

The artist thus further develops her performance to build to bury to remember, in which she critically and performatively engages with monuments. Together, the performers reflect on the fetishized status of historical monuments, creating hybrid forms between sculpture and latex bodies. Who do they depict? Who do they remind?

As part of the theme days "Conceal or Tell?", the performers enter into a dialog with the historical sculptures of the Berlin Palace as fluid, mysterious statues. What stories can be glimpsed beneath the shiny gold of their surface?

From a Black feminist perspective, Duah explores the relationship between bodies and sculpture, with Afro-diasporic narratives central to her artistic practice. She deals with sculptural appreciation and cultures of remembrance. What alternative forms of sculptural appreciation are there? Who or what do we want to dedicate them to? How to deal with the void that remains when a colonial monument is demolished?
