Togo in the colonial era: silent film pioneer and "African explorer" Hans Schomburgk traveled to the German "model colony" of Togo in 1913/14 to shoot his adventure and documentary films. A century later, documentary film director Jürgen Ellinghaus takes a mobile cinema to the original filming locations from back then. With the Togolese audience of today, he explores the historical background of Schomburgk's film images and documents the reactions to the historical material. The documentary makes a valuable contribution to the reappraisal of German colonialism.
