Tom Odell is not a musician of grand gestures - and yet his music often feels as if it tells the story of entire lives. Since his breakthrough in 2012 with "Another Love", the artist, who was born in Chichester in the south of England in 1990, has had an amazing career. He began writing songs as a teenager, initially only for others. But because he couldn't find anyone suitable to sing his songs, he took the microphone himself and unintentionally started his own story. It is a story of awakening and vulnerability, of international awards - such as the BRIT Award or the Ivor Novello Award - and at the same time of an unwavering refusal to bow to the machinery of the mainstream. Instead, Odell remains true to his style: piano-driven songs, arranged in a pared-down style, with lyrics that seem as if he has more life experience than many colleagues twice his age.
