TOYTOY: Four musical virtuosos in one energetic bunch. Together, the Hamburgers form a catalyst for influences ranging from Frank Zappa and Weather Report to J Dilla and Terrace Martin. At the same time, they breathe the clouds of a young global jazz scene. Accelerated by the irrepressible energy of their live shows, the four also create their very own vibe in the studio.

Bass heat, percussion sound mega-palette, drum sass, hypnotic guitar. Following the example of American music collectives such as Soulquarians or The Roots, TOYTOY see themselves as a creative driving force and facilitator for the fusion of jazz and urban music such as soul and rap.

TOYTOY have made a name for themselves in the German jazz and groove scene in recent years with their concert series "re-jazzed", in which they deconstruct iconic hip-hop albums and take them back to the roots of the originally sampled jazz classics. This was followed by various releases of their own, including with the NDR Bigband and Giovanni Weiss.

Together with producer and dub wizard Umberto Echo, who has known the group since their beginnings as an ambitious teenage band in the late noughties, TOYTOY are now venturing into previously unfamiliar territory on their latest album "Surprise Surprise". With illustrious guests from Umberto Echo's Oneness Records cosmos such as Gentleman keyboardist Frank Pollak and Dub Inc. bassist Moritz von Korff, the hyper-creative Hamburg band fuse their eclectic style with Caribbean-British reggae grooves and dub sounds.

The release tour for the album in fall 2024 will be mixed live by Umberto Echo and promises to be a feast for audiophiles and dance fans alike. Friedrich Paravicini and Yannis Anft will alternate as guests on the keyboard.

Umberto Echo: After remixes for Abdullah Ibrahim in the early noughties, the Munich-based sound professor is now dubbing his way around the globe. He produced two world music dub jazz albums for the renowned Enja Records label with Jojo Mayer, Josh Roseman, Peter Apfelbaum, Barney McAll, Jean-Louis Matinier, Justin Brown, Ambrose Akinmusire and many other collaborators. In 2010, "Dub The World" was released on the Echo Beach label with UE remixes by Sly&Robbie, Gentleman, Seeed, Steel Pulse feat. Damien Marley, Stereo MCs etc. In between his own projects, Umberto has worked on over 300 albums for artists such as Quadro Nuevo, Jazzrausch Bigband, Silvan Strauss, Lisa Wulff, Dub Inc, Sara Lugo, Dub Spencer & Trance Hill and productions for his own reggae label Oneness Records with singers such as Alborosie, Junior Kelly, Sizzla, Capleton, Luciano. To get some fresh air from time to time, Mr. Echo has mixed over 1500 live concerts since 1999.
