A young man is the victim of his convictions: The world is ridiculous, the others even more so and he himself most of all. He is indifferent to everything. After a strange encounter with a little girl and a dream that opens his eyes to the essentials, he questions his decision to take his own life.

Michael Lippold gives the ridiculous man a profile without overly exploring the landscape of his soul (which Dostoyevsky only hints at). This man decides to commit suicide quietly and introvertedly and experiences his dream as a calm observer. It is only logical that he does not behave like a zealous missionary when announcing the new bond that links him to the world, but cautiously, as if it were something commonplace and as if he were still skeptical about the sudden affirmation of life. Michael Lippold offered just under an hour of concentrated acting, the intensity of which makes you want to see more of these solo cabinet pieces. (WAZ)

Michael Lippold has summoned up the courage to bring this difficult story, which transcends the boundaries of dream and reality, to the stage as a monologue. And lo and behold: suddenly it is no longer difficult at all. Lippold takes the audience by the hand in the sparse, atmospherically lit stage space and takes them on a journey into Dostoyevsky's world of thought. Lippold traces the development from suicide to a nihilism that makes everything in the world seem meaningful to the man in an exciting way, thus making it possible to experience the importance that faith must have had for Dostoyevsky.
