Trash Up! presents: TREIBHAUS DEPOT

Cultural venues as a nucleus for sustainable action? Let's try it out! The Mittelhalle is becoming a meeting place for all things sustainability.

Whether it's a festival, upcycling market, podcast or summer party - since 2016, Trash Up! has been all about sustainability.

In June 2024, the event series presents the TREIBHAUS DEPOT: an open space in the impressive central hall of the former streetcar workshop, designed by the urbanists. In an area of around 200 m², people can discuss, cook and play table tennis together. From here, we set off on our bikes to the urban gardens in Dortmund's Nordstadt district and ask ourselves what a vibrant cultural scene needs to thrive.

We will be joined by experts from the fields of climate research and urban design, who will take a look at the fundamentals of sustainability and delve deeper into the issues involved. Where are colonialism and the climate crisis linked? To what extent are women and girls affected differently by climate change? What spaces are needed in a city like Dortmund in order to carry out sustainable cultural work? And what do ice cores actually have to do with all of this?

There are many questions and challenges that the Depot is getting to the bottom of together with the urbanists and is bringing support to the TREIBHAUS: Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Tonbande from the Rekorder and Train of Hope e.V. are all involved.

Because even challenging topics can be tackled with fun, music and cake in good company.

Participation in the events is free of charge and - with the exception of the Discursive Dinners - no registration is required.
