Tropical butterflies in all colors, up close: For many Munich residents, the Tropical Butterflies exhibition is a traditional winter experience that they had to do without for three years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now it's finally back!
Over 400 butterflies from the tropics of America and Southeast Asia flutter around freely in the aquatic plant house (House 4 of the show greenhouses). They are flown in as pupae from special butterfly farms in Costa Rica and Malaysia. A few days after they arrive in the hot and humid greenhouse, they hatch.
Tips for your visit
We recommend using the quieter weeks at the start of the exhibition for a visit, as well as days during the week and the morning hours. The weekends are very busy. Please allow for longer waiting times in the outdoor area .
Please note that you are responsible for your own safety when visiting the butterfly exhibition. The water plant house cannot be ventilated during the winter months. A large number of visitors can be expected, especially at weekends. We ask people with a positive corona test result to refrain from visiting the greenhouses. Thank you very much!
