Brooklyn-based rockers TVOD stand out with emotional, sometimes juvenile lyrics, paired with driving, catchy songs that never fail to get the crowd moving or moshing. Influenced by post-punk, egg punk, and krautrock, TVOD effortlessly blend musical genres in a way that feels completely seamless. “More than anything, their sound is engineered to make you move” (Creem Magazine). The brainchild of singer-songwriter Tyler Wright, the project draws from personal and external inspirations such as the nightlife and music scene, heartbreak, World War II, the untimely death of a beloved pet fish, and so on. TVOD’svivid storytelling paints a gritty, tongue-in-cheek picture of life as a DIY artist grinding it out in NYC, complete with legendary tales of a decadent lifestyle and all the ups and downs that come with it.
TVOD came into being in 2019 with a high-energy cassette full of punk songs recorded by Wright on a Tascam 4-track tape recorder in the basement of a DIY space where he was living. Since then, the band has independently released two EPs— *Daisy* (2020) and *Victory Garden* ( 2021)—along with the singles“Alien,”“Mantis,” “Goldfish,”and“Poppies,” as well as two limited-edition 45s; Creem Magazine described their sound as “a nod to traditional post-punk bands like The Pixies as well as newer ones like Dry Cleaning.”
Known for their raw, unapologetic, and unpredictable stage performances, the six-piece band has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, performing at major festivals such as SXSW, Hopscotch, Sled Island, and Concrete Jungle, all while sharing the stage with acts like Warmduscher, Snõõper, Gustaf, Civic, and Soul Glo. As Anna Zanes of Alternative Press wrote, “TVOD are elbowing their way out of Brooklyn’s young and burgeoning post-punk scene and into the spotlight, expressive and raw in both stage presence and sonic output.” She adds: “Balancing reflective lyrics with rowdy live energy, TVOD embody the true ethos of punk rock, and never fail to get a good mosh pit going.”
To launch “one of [New York’s] most exciting up-and-coming bands” (Rolling Stone), Wright handpicked a standout lineup of Brooklyn freaks, and is now joined, both live and in the studio, by: Mem Pahl on drums, Micki Piccirillo on bass, Jenna Mark on synthesizers, as well as Serge Zbritzher and Denim Casimir on guitar. Fresh off recording with producers Félix Bélisle and Samuel Gemme at Gamma Recording Studio (Corridor, Population II, La Sécurité) in Montréal, Québec, TVOD are gearing up to release a new single titled“Car Wreck”on December 3, 2024—their first via Mothland. Highly recommended for fans of contemporary alternative acts like Viagra Boys, Fidlar, or Jay Reatard, and punk classics such as Gang of Four or Wire.
