Tyler Mitchell . Wish This Was Real

In the organizer's words:

Since his rise in the fashion world, American photographer Tyler Mitchell (*1995) has been developing a visual narrative about beauty, fashion, utopia and landscape that expands the image of Black people's lives. Against the backdrop of history, he traces dreams of paradise that focus on self-determination and the radiance of the everyday. The exhibition spans almost ten years of his dynamic artistic work in the fields of photography and video and highlights the influence of the "New Black Vanguard" - the so-called image production of Black photographers, which is located between art and fashion. Divided into three thematic areas, the exhibition presents Mitchell's diverse explorations of portraiture, nature and social memory, as well as his latest works printed on fabric and mirrors. The central installation Altars / Acres also features a cross-generational selection of works by renowned artists with whom Mitchell shares a deep sense of kinship and dialog. Wish This Was Real is Tyler Mitchell's first solo exhibition in Germany.
