The life ofUchenna Yara Katzmayr—orUCHE YARAfor short—has revolved around music since her earliest childhood days. The Austrian artist with Nigerian roots began playing percussion at an early age, then moved on to the marimba, and later, as a teenager, learned to play the guitar. At 16, she wrote her first original songs. She is now considered perhaps the most innovative up-and-coming artist Austria has produced in decades.
Even before she released her first official single, she performed withBilderbuchat the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. In 2022, she will open forThe Rolling Stonesat Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. But that’s not all:ParcelsandMarc Rebilletare also fans of hers. None of this comes as much of a surprise.
