LIMBO

Works by Agata Zubel, Alla Zagaykevych, Yin Wang, Sven Ingo Koch and Maxim Shalygin

Consuming and consuming oneself as a metaphor: from longing, almost allegorical food to bloodthirsty consumption, being consumed and sacrificing oneself as a grim catharsis.

The image of the singer accompanying herself on the piano as the most intimate, self-concentrated expression describes the limbo - the state of limbo into which the numerous social and political upheavals of recent years have plunged us.

The play on closeness and distance, loneliness and global localization, fear and hope reflects not only the personal situation of the Ukrainian artist, but also the isolation of the resistance fighter in the prison cell: LIMBO is dedicated to her Belarusian colleague and friend Maria Kalesnikava, who was recently sentenced to 11 years in prison. The theme of the irrational state of limbo thus takes on a dramatic, very real dimension.
