Unerzählte Geschichten des Miteinanders. Muslimisch-Jüdische Allianzen und Erinnerungskultur

In the organizer's words:

There is currently little space for stories of Muslim-Jewish alliances and a diverse culture of remembrance. Discussions on the relationship between Muslims and Jews are characterized both in public and in private by hardened fronts and enemy images, but also by powerlessness and despair. The question of which stories and realities of life are publicly remembered is the subject of heated debate and has a major influence on our present, our current political discourse and social cohesion.

This is precisely where the exhibitionUntold Stories of Coexistencecomes in, taking visitors on a journey to forgotten, silenced and overwritten Muslim-Jewish connections. It tells of social imbalances, of friendships and fleeting encounters, of continuities and ruptures, shedding light on what is less considered in the debate on Muslim-Jewish relations.

As part of an academy program, the four Jewish and four Muslim artists researched Muslim-Jewish alliances and dealt with the culture of remembrance. What is remembered, what perspectives are presented and who decides? Can there even be a shared, collective form of remembrance culture or is remembering perhaps not only a highly selective but also a deeply personal act? The contributions have each found their own answers and forms of debate, which are also reflected in their materiality: The exhibition brings together installations, compositions, sculptures and works in text that relate to each other in various collaborations.

With works by Hicham Rhannam, Dawud Yildirim, David Bakum, Edna Al-Najar, Mahmoud Tahawi, Jonathan Penzkofer, Shir Shoval-Simhoni and Rachel Blokh.

The exhibition can be seen at the Garage Campus until 31.12.2025. On request to And on request to: kontakt.garagen-campus@cvag.de the exhibition can be viewed outside opening hours.
