Ungarns Wahl: Zäsur oder Status quo?

The event in the "Germany, your neighbors" series examines political and social developments in neighboring European countries from their own internal perspective and places them in the context of the EU and relations with Germany. The first event will focus on Hungary after the parliamentary elections in April 2026, in particular the question of what the election victory of the TISZA party means for domestic policy, the rule of law, EU policy and relations with Germany.

What is happening politically and socially in the countries surrounding Germany - and how are these changes viewed there? The "Germany, your neighbors" series deliberately focuses on the internal perspectives of European countries. Experts from academia and practice describe current developments, place them in the context of the EU and shed light on what this means for relations with Germany. Instead of external perspectives and headlines, the focus is on context, debate and different assessments. The events invite you to get to know neighboring European countries, to question familiar patterns of interpretation and to perceive the diversity of Europe in a more differentiated way.

The series kicks off with Hungary after the parliamentary elections in April 2026, focusing on the question of what will happen in Hungary after the election victory of Péter Magyar's TISZA party. Conceivable consequences for the rule of law, EU policy and relations with Germany as well as domestic political shifts will be discussed. Baden-Württemberg in particular is closely linked to Hungary as part of the Danube Region Strategy. Is Hungary facing a political turning point? And what does a change of power in Budapest mean for Europe? Join us as we discover Europe's diversity together, question prejudices and understand the future of our European neighbors!
