Everything happens at once: this dance piece pauses for a single moment and breaks it down into its individual choreographic parts - just before everything collides.
The moment when everything comes crashing down on us - frozen, torn apart and yet full of energy! UNKNOWN COEFFICIENT is a contemporary dance piece with five performers that attempts to break down a single moment - dissecting it, rewinding it and reassembling it from all perspectives. A moment that is everything at once: full of beauty and horror, power and fragility. Opposites meet here - power and fear, control and devotion, perseverance and abandonment, rebellion and doubt. A dance between resistance and yielding, between frozen jerkiness and flowing movement, between clear forms and raw emotion.
Choreographer Marie Gourdain is interested in the coexistence of opposites: For the moment when the sensible breaks down and the absurd begins. Inspired by Jacques-Louis David's painting "Les Sabines", which shows a situation shortly before a collision, UNKNOWN COEFFICIENT captures this moment - a moment full of tension that contains everything that is about to collide.
Dancing material collides here. Violence meets tenderness, delusion meets resistance. The choreographic work oscillates between a precise formal language and a sensually expressive physicality that unfolds powerfully and emotionally. After being awarded the International Caroline Neuber Scholarship of the City of Leipzig 2021/22 and the LOFFT co-production SEISMIC in 2022, Marie Gourdain is once again a guest in Leipzig.
