The theater project "Underworlds" takes the audience into the mysterious cellars of the opera house, which become a stage, living room, shelter and waiting room to breathe new life into the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.

After a chat with a mysterious figure somewhere between a barman and a sailor, you enter limbo: the office of the underworld. Amidst centimetres of dust, unprocessed files and applications, you may finally be allowed to pass through the door to the underworld and immerse yourself in a world of coincidences, unknown logics and patterns, memories and scraps of thoughts.

What is new and exciting about this project is both the conquest of the theater's basement and the collective development itself. In artist collectives, the process becomes a work of art, and democratic debates create an immersive parcours that invites visitors to open previously hidden doors, ask questions and make individual decisions.

In addition to the soloists Natasa Dudar, Sandra Janke and Friederike Meinke and the soloists Daniel Arnaldos, Randall Jakobsh, Josef Jugashvili, KT Flavio Salamanka and Matthias Stier, members of Oper Leipzig's multi-generational club, Rebecca Roks (video), Niklas Gerwien (sound) and Nils Scharhag (technology) are also involved. Together with dramaturges Anna Elisabeth Diepold, Marlene Hahn, Dr. Inken Meents, Dr. Kara McKechnie and Marie Poll, set designer Dirk Becker and assistant Hyeonsu Jung, costume designer Vanessa Raths, lighting designer Michael Röger and technical director Gabor Zsitva, they not only find new ways of working and expressing themselves as an artistic collective, but also populate this hellish playground between office and catastrophe space.
