The multimedia performance UPRISING BODIES tells of the oppression of women and the courage and strength of their resistance.
In close collaboration, choreographer Babak Radmehr and an international team of performers from the fields of music, dance and film bring stories to the stage that tell of the disregard and structural discrimination of women. In many societies, this is still part of everyday life and leaves deep and painful traces in the biographies of those affected - sometimes permanently. Babak Radmehr is from Iran, a country where the wearing of the hijab is enshrined in law and women are forced to cover their bodies - a cloth that is so light in terms of material but has become infinitely heavy, soaked in countless stories of oppression, suffering and death. For years of struggle and with the revolution "Jin Jiyan Azadî" (Woman, Life, Freedom), taking off the headscarf has become a central gesture of protest for women in Iran. UPRISING BODIES is an artistic act of resistance and solidarity. The performers fight back with their whole bodies, their whispers become an outcry, they take the stage with gestures of protest and call loudly for equality and justice.
