URLICHT PRIMAL LIGHT. GUSTAV MAHLER GOES CIRCUS: Circa & Franui Musicbanda
In the organizer's words:
"Urlicht Primal Light" unites the most diverse worlds in one project: it is the unique encounter between the Austrian music band Franui from Innervillgraten in East Tyrol and the globally acclaimed Australian acrobats from Circa Contemporary Circus in Brisbane as a scenic rediscovery of the universe of Gustav Mahler's songs. The Australian star acrobats create body worlds and sculptures to accompany Franui's incomparable Mahler interpretations - a touching symphony of bodies and music!
"What Franui does with Mahler, Circa does with the circus: recomposing out of tradition, respectfully and innovatively and always in search of unprecedented forms of poetry." (Yaron Lifschitz, director Circa)
In June, Franui and Circa will be guests on the big stage of the Volkstheater to present the audience with extraordinary musical theater.
The performance on June 20 will be followed by an artist talk in the Rote Bar.
Australia and Austria are only a few letters apart but situated on opposite corners of the world. "Urlicht Primal Light" is a long time imagined joint venture of Musicbanda Franui from Austria's region East Tyrol with Australia's leading circus performance company Circa from Brisbane to create an acrobatic journey through Gustav Mahler's songs. The musical cosmos of Gustav Mahler's Lieder and Franui's unique and unmatched interpretations of Mahler's music create the acrobatic worlds and landscapes for the bodies of Circa's acrobats to inhabit with outstanding movement and precision. This is a concert of new perceptions - music theater designed to bring the flavours and textures of Gustav Mahler, as interpreted by Franui, to life as a creation for large scale audiences across generations celebrating the great Austrian composer.
"What Franui achieves with Mahler, Circa does with circus - recomposed from the traditions, respectful but innovative, searching for new kinds of poetry. Together in Urlicht Primal Light we aim to create a symphony of bodies and music as thrilling as it is moving." (Yaron Lifschitz, Director Circa)
