There's no better way to launch a career than vaultboy: born in 1993, the singer and songwriter from Jackson, Florida, whose real name is Jeremiah Daly, landed a global hit with his debut single. "everything sucks" was celebrated in 2021, especially by the young TikTok community. No wonder, the bedroom pop song with hard emo vibes always fits when you're dealing with a heartbreak and want to cry all day, but of course keep up appearances on the outside. Which is the standard emotional set-up for every teenager. The part with these lines, in particular, can now be heard in hundreds of thousands of video clips: "Ah, everything sucks, just kidding / Everything is great, no really / I haven't thought about my ex today / Oh, wait (fuck, I just did)." The artist name vaultboy was also well received on the internet: it is a reference to the popular apocalyptic video game "Fallout" and its mascot Vault Boy.

In the meantime, however, the musician vaultboy has proven more than once that he is by no means a viral one-hit wonder. Follow-up singles such as "aftermath", "i wanna text you" and "rocket science" show him to be an accomplished musician and charming lyricist with a sound that can perhaps best be described as a fusion of bedroom pop, sad-boy emo and indie. At the same time, vaultboy always has a damn good knack for those casual hooklines that grab you in just a few seconds and never let go. And - what sets him apart from many TikTok hypes: the rest of the song, which follows a TikTok snippet, keeps up the level that vaultboy is teasing. Lyrically, it's mainly his emotional openness that touches many fans: vaultboy speaks and sings openly about mental health struggles and strong emotions. Rolling Stone even called him the "king of sad songs", but that's a bit unfair, because vaultboy 's sense of melody always manages to make the songs sound bittersweet rather than wistful or just sad.

This year, vaultboy released some very strong singles such as "everything hits me all at once" or the melancholy ballad "way after forever". At the same time, however, he played numerous live shows and was at least able to convince his home country that he is an equally accomplished live artist. Next year, Germany will finally be on the tour schedule. And, as vaultboy revealed to "Unclear Magazine" this year: "I'm currently working on my debut album." We are excited to see when it will be released, but we know that he already has enough full-length material with his singles and albums that he will present live in Berlin and Cologne in May 2024.
