Verfolgen und Aufklären. Die erste Generation der Holocaustforschung
In the organizer's words:
The exhibition "Persecution and Clarification" is dedicated to the first generation of Holocaust research and presents selected protagonists. It highlights their achievements for science, the culture of remembrance and criminal prosecution and shows the resistance they had to fight against.
After liberation in 1945, the few survivors found themselves on the edge of the abyss: six million Jews were murdered by the National Socialists in the Holocaust. The lives and cultural environment of the survivors had been destroyed. In this situation, the members of the first generation of Holocaust researchers felt called to action. They asked themselves how they could commemorate the murdered. Is there an appropriate way to remember the countless dead and the obliterated communities, to give them back their names and their dignity? They tried to paint their own picture of the Holocaust that was not shaped by the perspective of those who committed the crimes. They wanted to collect evidence for later legal proceedings and preserve the memory of the countless dead and the destroyed Jewish culture.
